Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Projectors display images typically by using small metal halide lamps. These lamps are used because they produce a wide range of colors at ideal color temperatures. Additionally, metal halide lamps enable a projector to emit large amounts of light (on average 2,000 to 15,000 Lumens) in a small area.



The light from the lamp is dispersed through a series of dichroic filters (liquid crystals) to three panels, one for each color component of a video signal (red, green, blue). An electrical current is applied to toggle the color on or off, depending on what shade of what color is being displayed. This gives the LCD projector its wide color range.



LCD Projectors work great in areas where it is difficult to control the lighting in the room, such as rooms with several large windows. Since the metal halide lamps produce bright light, they perform better in these scenarios. Since the lamps are fairly small, they make LCD projectors good for portability and are lightweight.

Canon Introduces New LV-8320 Multimedia Projector

Canon has just recently announced a new portable multimedia LCD projector aimed at education, traveling sales and small business markets. Known as the Cannon LV-8320, this device has a very high brightness of 3,000 lumens as well as a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. The LV-8320 also has a native wide-screen WXGA resolution of 1,200 x 800 and can accept full 1080p HD content via integrated HDMI port.

The LV-8320 also contains a 1.6x manual zoom lens that allows for easy setup and placement in any situation. The lamp system in this projector is designed for extended life and power savings and the projector automatically adjusts the lamp output according to the brightness of the image being projected. In addition to that, it also automatically adjusts the shift of color balance, decreasing lamp output which results in a significant reduction to the projector's power consumption.

According to Canon, the projector's air filter, which is made of a three-layer hybrid material, is able to withstand 5,500 hours of usage in ECO mode. There are also a bunch of connections on this projector that are perfect for computers, video and audio. The LV-8320 comes with an HDMI port as well as a built-in 10-Watt speaker. However, if the built-in speaker isn't enough, you can always relay audio to external speakers through the the stereo audio mini-jack output. The LV-8320 also comes with an RJ-45 Network Connection and RS-232C Serial Connection to provide full LAN control as well as remote PC control.

Due to the native WXGA resolution, the LV-8320 is compatible with native 16:10 displays seen in recent laptops and desktops making it perfect for meetings or classroom settings. The bright 3,000 lumen output along with the 2,000:1 contrast ratio also ensures bright, well-defined images no matter where you set up. The LV-8320 multimedia projector from Canon is backed by a 3-year limited warranty and will be available in early July for $900.

Canon's LV Series Gets Updated with 5 New LCD Projectors

People tend to get excited when companies release new products. Typically a company will release one or two things at once, but if you are Canon, that just won't suffice. Canon has just released five, that's right five, new multimedia LCD projectors that are said to offer extremely sharp images and very bright projections.

These five new LCD projectors help update Canon's ultra-portable LV series of projectors. The five new models consist of the LV-8225, LV-7490, LV-7390, LV-7295 and LV-7290. Each of these projectors features a wide-angle 1.2x zoom projection lens as well as a 10W speaker.

All of the new LV projectors also offer XGA resolutions in order to deliver a sharp image and a bright, clear projection. That is, of course, unless you get the LV-8225. This sucker only has a native WXGA resolution.

There are a lot of other great features that come with these new projectors. They all come with an extended 6,000 hour lamp, filters that last up to 5,000 hours and less than 1W of power consumption in standby mode. It is no surprise that these devices are definitely designed to be energy efficient.

The LV-8225 has a 1,280x800 native resolution as well as a 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio with a 2,500 lumen output so it isn't as high-end as the other projectors in the series.

The brightest projector is definitely the LV-7490 with a 4,000 lumen output. This makes it perfect to run in places that are larger or have more ambient light. The LV-7390, LV-7295 and LV-7290 have brightnesses of 3,000, 2,600 and 2,200 lumens respectively.
